Overview 


The 700MHz Wind Power 5G Private Network Smart Wind Power Plant Project was the world's first 5G private network project with a full core network sunk into local areas, which has been jointly built by communication operators and industry customers. It realized the full-scene operation coverage inside and outside the wind power tower and provided a network foundation for the 5G intelligent applications of smart stations. The deployment cost of this scheme was reduced by 75% compared with the traditional way, and the operation time of typical wind power scenarios was shortened by 10% - 15%, which made it become a new commercial model for communication operators to participate in the construction of smart stations and also construct a new ecology for copying 5G private network construction in bulk in the power industry. 

 

Models and Characteristics


First coordination: The successful application of the 5G private network of CGNPC New Energy Guangning Guangbei Wind Farm is a typical case of 5G ecological construction coordinated by industry customers, product solution providers and communication operators, marking the successful implementation of the joint promotion of industry customized products and standard solutions and a big successful step forward in the construction standards of 5G private network in wind power industry and the wind power operation and maintenance of “network, big data and AI”. 


First verification: AsiaInfo has independently developed the first domestic 700MHz integrated base station adapted to the wind power industry, which meets the requirements of power security, and successfully verified that the 700MHz band of China Broadcast Network is the low frequency band with low transmission loss and the strongest coverage capacity of mobile communications. The successful application of this product shows that South China CGNPC New Energy has the courage to make decisions, plan and lay out new energy science and technology innovation in the long term, and try first in the application practice of wind power digital intelligence. 


First application: Driven by innovation, South China CGNPC New Energy takes multiple measures to improve the equipment operation level, and adopts the 5GC power private network core network self-developed by AsiaInfo. This product integrates edge computing power capability, AI network self-operation and maintenance capability, business security diversion capability and network opening capability, with the characteristics of software and hardware decoupling, full-cloud deployment and elastic expansion, and provides a basic network for various 5G intelligent applications such as UAV inspection, tower climbing robot, vibration monitoring, blade crack analysis and lightning stroke early warning, realizing the digitalization and intelligence of field production and operation management. 


First exploration: In order to ensure the healthy operation of equipment and comprehensively improve the utilization hours of power generation, South China CGNPC New Energy, together with China Broadcast Network and AsiaInfo, takes the lead in trying to match the 5G private network of wind power with edge data acquisition, operation and inspection process control, operation safety management and remote diagnosis and troubleshooting to provide a professional network management platform, and provide 7*24 customer service response SLA support system to ensure the stable operation of the network, and takes the lead in exploring the feasible path of 5G in the field of wind power industrial control. 


Implementation Effect 


This project consisted of a wireless 5G base station system, optical fiber transmission system, switch, core network, firewall system, etc., which completed the deployment and coverage of the wireless 5G network in the wind farm, provided 24-hour uninterrupted communication, data transmission, and other carrying services, and provided application tools such as station instant messaging tools and operation management of external personnel supporting the 5G private network. 

 

Compared with other 5G private networks, the 5G private network built by AsiaInfo in conjunction with China Broadcast Network and South China CGNPC New Energy was based on the localization deployment of full network elements, reaching the leading level in security. What's more, it was deeply combined with wind power farm production operation and maintenance business, including personnel admission, operation process management, operation closed-loop management and other production links. In the whole process of the construction of the private network, the characteristics of the wind power farm communication system have been fully utilized, and the optical fiber resources in the wind power farm were also reused, which greatly reduced the construction cost of the transmission network. At the same time, the base station was installed with the help of fans, which finally made the cost of the whole private network extremely low and achieved the best cost performance. 

 

In addition, it realized 5G private network + edge data acquisition, 5G private network + transportation inspection process control, 5G private network + operation safety management, and 5G private network + remote diagnosis and troubleshooting. Investigation on 5G Lighthouse 


The 2023 Central Economic Working Conference pointed out that it is necessary to vigorously promote new industrialization and develop digital economy. “5G+ application scenarios” has become an important support for developing new productivity, promoting new industrialization and accelerating the development of digital economy. At present, more than 29,000 virtual private networks have been built in the 5G industry, and 5G applications have been integrated into 71 of 97 major categories of the national economy. The total number of 5G application cases has reached 94,000, and the penetration rate of 5G in large industrial enterprises has reached 37.1%. The quality improvement and expansion of industrial applications have continued to show an empowering effect. 


In order to help the development of the “Set Sail” plan, the 5G+ industrial internet and 5G fully-connected factories, give full play to the lighthouse effect and role model power, and find the benchmark cases of 5G industry application, starting from 2022, all media of the Communications Weekly and the CCID Electronic Information and Communication Evaluation Center continued to launch the “5G+” lighthouse application and 5G fully-connected factory benchmark case industry research collection and theme dissemination, which received wide attention from the industry chain and received many excellent declarations and nominations from the front line of the industry chain. 

 

After several months of research and several rounds of reviews, a few days ago, based on the industry research collection and theme dissemination of the “5G+” lighthouse application and 5G fully-connected factory benchmark cases in 2023, all media of Communications Weekly and CCID Electronic Information and Communication Evaluation Center evaluated the aspects of infrastructure construction, factory site upgrade, key link application and network security protection, etc., jointly summed up the Top 10 Benchmark Cases of “5G+” Lighthouse Application in 2023 and Top 10 5G Fully-connected Factory Benchmark Cases in 2023, and released the results in the Communications Industry Conference 2023 and the 18th Communications Technology Annual.
